I ❤️ Dumaguete 2025 - Day 2 - Ate Gigi's House - 02/10/2025
Okay, so after all our adventures – the sulfur vents, the waterfalls, the hot springs – we were seriously starving! Lunch was definitely in order, and luckily, Jit Jit (a friend traveling with us) had a family connection in Dumaguete who was more than happy to host us.
We met Ati Gigi in Valencia, a relative of Jit Jit's, and she welcomed us into her absolutely stunning home. I was blown away by how beautiful the community was – her house is located within a very exclusive resort, and the house itself is huge and modern – seriously impressive!
Ati Gigi had prepared the most incredible lunch spread. I mean, seriously, there was so much food! The photos don't even do it justice – we had fish, chicken, a fresh salad, and even wine! But the real star of the show was the lato, a seaweed salad. Now, I've always been a bit hesitant about seaweed – I find it can sometimes be a bit too… fishy for my taste. But Ati Gigi’s lato was incredible! It completely changed my mind about seaweed – it's now officially one of my favorite dishes!
We spent a good hour at Ati Gigi's house, enjoying the delicious food, chatting with her, and sharing stories about our Dumaguete adventures. It was such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There was so much food, in fact, that we ended up doing what Filipinos call "Sharon" – taking home the leftovers! Ati Gigi was incredibly generous, even giving our tour guide a bottle of whiskey as a parting gift.
Saying goodbye was hard – we really felt like we'd made a genuine connection. But after our farewells, it was time to head off to our final destination. Overall, our visit to Ati Gigi's house was a true highlight of our trip. It was a perfect blend of delicious food, warm hospitality, and a glimpse into the beauty of Dumaguete's local culture.
