I ❤️ Tokyo 2025 - Day 6 - Tokyo Skytree - 03/14/2025
Okay, so after that epic Gyukatsu lunch (you'll hear more about that in another post!), we actually had a booking at Roppongi Hills at 3 pm. Unfortunately, things didn't quite go to plan, and we missed our reservation. It was cancelled as a result, which was a shame, but hey, that's travel sometimes! Roppongi Hills is definitely on the list for next time.
After lunch, I had to separate from the group since I had a meeting with a friend around 8 pm. This gave me a chance for a solo adventure, and I decided to explore beyond the usual tourist hotspots.
Following Google Maps (bless its little digital heart!), I set off on my solo adventure to Tokyo Skytree. This was my first time walking alone in a foreign country after leaving the main tourist areas, and it was surprisingly liberating. The walk itself was an adventure. I passed some seriously cool buildings, gorgeous landscapes, charming cafes, and interesting little shops. It was a great way to see a different side of Tokyo, away from the usual tourist hotspots.
And then… I arrived at Tokyo Skytree. Wow. Just… wow. Even from a distance, it's breathtaking. Up close, it's even more impressive. I was completely blown away by its sheer size and elegance. It's one of those moments where you just stand there, mouth agape, taking it all in.
Now, I should confess: this was a completely spontaneous visit, so I didn't have time to pre-book tickets to go up to the observation decks. That’s a definite “next time” thing. But even just seeing the Skytree from the ground was an incredible experience.
The contrast between Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower is striking. Tokyo Tower feels like old-school Tokyo, steeped in history and charm. Tokyo Skytree, on the other hand, is modern Tokyo – sleek, futuristic, and incredibly impressive. It's a fascinating juxtaposition of old and new.
There's so much to do around the Skytree, too. There are restaurants, museums, shops, and even grocery stores. It's a whole little world unto itself. Tokyo Skytree is a must-do in Tokyo, whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned visitor.
After my Skytree adventure, I met up with my friend in Ikebukuro. We caught up over dinner at McDonald's (sometimes, you just crave that familiar comfort food!), followed by coffee at Starbucks. It was a perfect way to end the day. And that's the end of Day 6 in Tokyo!
This solo exploration was incredibly empowering. There's something incredibly liberating about exploring a new city at your own pace, on your own terms. I highly recommend solo travel – it's a fantastic way to discover new things about yourself and the world around you. Definitely trying more solo adventures next time!
