I ❤️ Tokyo 2025 - Day 8 - Narita Airport - 03/16/2025
Tokyo, March 16, 2025 – 8:00 AM: The alarm blared, gently pulling me from a dream filled with ramen and robot restaurants. Today was the day – our departure back to Manila. After a quick breakfast of perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs and toast (a stark contrast to what awaited us back home!), I packed my suitcase, carefully arranging my souvenirs amongst my clothes. OOTD? Comfy travel attire – jeans, a cozy sweater, and my trusty sneakers. No need for high fashion on travel day!
10:00 AM: Check-out from our Airbnb was a breeze. We hopped on the train at Senkawa Station, heading towards Ueno Station to catch the Keisei Skyliner to Narita Airport. Our Klook-booked tickets were waiting for us, and soon we were settled onto platform #6, ready for our journey.
The hour-long train ride was surprisingly peaceful. Despite my initial intention to soak in the scenery, the gentle rocking of the train lulled me into a blissful nap. I woke up just as we pulled into Narita.
1:00 PM: Narita Airport buzzed with activity. We had a significant chunk of time before our 7:00 PM flight (a slight correction from my initial 11:00 PM assumption!), so we strategically dropped off our bulky suitcases at the airport luggage service. This brilliant move allowed us to explore the airport freely without the added burden of our bags.
Our first mission? Lunch! We stumbled upon a delightful restaurant serving comforting rice meals – the perfect fuel for our afternoon adventures. Next on the agenda: returning our portable Wi-Fi. The process was surprisingly smooth and efficient.
Back with the family, I broke the news about the earlier flight time. The initial panic subsided quickly as we made our way to the check-in area. The line for Manila was already impressive, but we were prepared. We double-checked the weight of our luggage, ensuring everything was within the airline's limits. However, a minor setback arose: a missing sticker on one of our self-check-in tags required a reprint, adding a frustrating 30 minutes to our process. Finally, we were checked in!
Immigration and boarding went smoothly, although we were left with a slight pang of regret – we'd accidentally left Mader's new Uniqlo jacket behind! (That's a story for another time…)
With two hours until boarding, we grabbed snacks from Starbucks and a convenience store. We nervously eyed our slightly overweight carry-ons, hoping the Japanese flight attendants wouldn’t be too strict. Thankfully, they were lenient, and we boarded without incident.
The five-hour flight was relatively uneventful. We landed in Manila at 11:00 PM, greeted by the immediate, noticeable heat and humidity. The stark contrast between the impeccable service in Japan and the… less-than-impeccable service back home was palpable.
And that, my friends, was the end of our Tokyo adventure. If I had to describe our trip in a nutshell? "Lost in Translation, a Learning Curve." It was a journey of navigating unfamiliar customs, embracing unexpected challenges, and discovering the beauty of a culture vastly different from our own. It was a steep learning curve, but ultimately rewarding. Tokyo, you've left an indelible mark on my heart. Until next time!
