Hanoi to Home: A Bittersweet Farewell to Vietnam Day 6: Hanoi to Manila
The final day of our Vietnam adventure dawned with a familiar mix of excitement and the creeping melancholy of "sep_anx" – that uniquely Filipino feeling of separation anxiety. Our beautiful Hanoi hotel, which had been our cozy sanctuary, was checked out at 9 PM, and a Grab car whisked us away to Noi Bai International Airport, marking the official end of our incredible journey. The airport at 10 PM was bustling, but we efficiently navigated the check-in counter to secure our boarding passes. By 11 PM, our luggage was checked, and we breezed through immigration and security. With some time to spare before our flight, a late dinner was in order. We found ourselves at Bamboo restaurant around midnight, where the combo burgers were unexpectedly priced in dollars – a little taste of home before heading back. The boarding procedure commenced at 2 AM, and by 2:30 AM, we were airborne, leaving the vibrant lights of Hanoi behind. The flight to Manila was smooth, a testament to the skill of our ever-reliant Filipino female pilot, who greeted us upon our 6:30 AM arrival in Manila. After immigration and collecting our luggage, the first order of business back home was a hearty breakfast at Mang Inasal. A quick stop at Papa, and by 9:30 AM, we were in a Grab, making our way home to Cavite, bringing our unforgettable Vietnam tour to a close. Vietnam Reflections: A Journey of Discovery Our time in Vietnam, from the misty mountains of Sapa to the charming streets of Hanoi, was truly an experience for the senses. One surprising observation was the notable absence of flies, mosquitoes, stray dogs, and cats – a pleasant surprise! We quickly learned that researching the weather is crucial, especially during the unpredictable winter season. The tourism industry here is a remarkable collaboration between the government and its people. This partnership shines through in thoughtful details like accessible public transport, clear instructions, and a genuine willingness to communicate and go the extra mile for visitors. A local SIM card with data proved to be an absolute lifesaver, keeping us connected and navigating with ease. And, of course, the food! Coffee, pho, and banh mi are not just dishes; they're a way of life, available on almost every corner. Whether you're on a budget or looking to splurge, Vietnam offers a plethora of options. But one thing is for sure: the experiences and memories forged in Vietnam are truly priceless.
