SAPA DIARIES: DAY 4 – RAINY ADVENTURES IN CAT CAT VILLAGE
6AM – Rise and Shine! The alarm went off way too early, but with a big day ahead, I dragged myself out of bed. Quick bath to wake up fully, then a light bite to eat – just enough to hold me over until proper breakfast. 8AM – Fuel Up at Cong Cafe Made my way to Cong Cafe and boy, was it worth the trip! Their banh mi was chef’s kiss – crispy baguette stuffed with fresh veggies and savory meat. Paired it with a Vietnamese Cappuccino that had the perfect balance of strong coffee and creamy foam.
The cozy vibe of the cafe was the best way to start the morning! 9:30AM – Off to Cat Cat Village Grabbed my phone and booked a Grab to Cat Cat Village – super convenient and hassle-free. Upon arrival, we paid the entrance fee and got ready to explore one of Sapa’s most iconic spots. 10AM – Descending to the Village The path down to Cat Cat Village was a bit steep but lined with beautiful mountain views. By 10:30AM, we were ready for a snack break at Haze Restaurant. Tried their blueberry yoghurt drink (refreshing!), Vietnamese sausage (spicy and flavorful), and grilled sweet potato (sweet and tender – perfect comfort food).
11AM – Exploring Under the Rain Just as we started our village tour and pictorial session, a light drizzle set in. Good thing we came prepared with raincoats! The misty, rainy atmosphere gave the village a magical, almost fairytale-like feel – every photo looked like it was straight out of a postcard. We wandered through traditional stilt houses, checked out local handicraft stalls, and watched villagers go about their day. 12:30PM – Headed Back Up After soaking in all the village charm, we made our way back up to the tourism area.
The climb was a bit tiring, but the cool rain made it bearable. 1PM – On to Sapa Lake Booked another Grab and set off for Sapa Lake, excited to see the scenic waters. We arrived around 1:30PM, completely worn out – so first order of business was food! We stumbled upon a bun bo restaurant that’s known for chicken blood and beef noodles, but we went for spring rolls and pork with rice instead. Wow – the flavors were incredible, exactly what we needed to recharge!
3PM – Foggy Lake and a Bun Letdown We spotted a stall selling chestnut buns and decided to give them a try… sadly, they were a total let down. Nothing beats our local hopia back home! We headed to the lake to take photos, but thick fog had rolled in – you literally couldn’t see the water at all! Disappointing, but that’s just how mountain weather goes sometimes. 3:30PM – Time to Unwind Booked a Grab back to the hotel, took a warm shower, and crashed onto the bed. What a day – full of ups and downs (literally and figuratively), but definitely one for the books!

Have you ever visited a place where bad weather actually made the experience more special? Would you brave the rain to explore a mountain village, or wait for clear skies?
