Day 2 - Han Market - Da Nang Travel Diary: Day 2 – Han Market and the Great Slipper Quest

Day two in Da Nang, and the mission was clear: find the perfect slippers for Mader! Our adventure led us straight to Han Market, a bustling hub that’s impossible to miss. Seriously, this place is HUGE.
Han Market, for those who don't know, is like the beating heart of Da Nang's shopping scene. It’s a massive indoor market where you can find just about anything – from fresh produce and local delicacies to clothes, shoes, and souvenirs. Think of it as a super-sized palengke, but with more variety and a lot more tourists.

As we stepped inside, we were immediately hit by a wave of sights, sounds, and smells. The ground floor was a treasure trove of souvenirs, dried goods, and all sorts of interesting raw materials. We spent a good while just wandering around, checking out the different stalls and marveling at the sheer variety of products on offer. Of course, we did a little price checking too, mentally noting the going rates for potential future purchases.
But our main goal was upstairs, where the apparel and shoes were located. And so, we ascended, ready to tackle the slipper situation head-on.
Now, let me tell you, shopping at Han Market is an experience in itself. It’s not for the faint of heart! We quickly realized that the initial prices are… shall we say… optimistic. It’s pretty clear that the vendors inflate their prices, expecting you to haggle. In other words, you're basically paying double if you don't bargain.

So, here’s a pro tip: always haggle! Do your research beforehand to get an idea of the real price, and don’t be afraid to offer a much lower price than what they’re asking. The art of haggling is definitely a learning curve, but it’s essential if you want to get a good deal.
We hit up three different stores, but none of them were willing to meet our price point. It was a bit frustrating, but we persevered. Finally, at the fourth store, we struck gold! The staff were super friendly, and after a bit of back-and-forth, they agreed to our price. Mader walked away with a pair of elevated Crocs for 200k VND, which is around 400 pesos. Not bad at all!

Mission accomplished! With the slippers secured, we decided to skip the rest of the second floor for now. We figured we’d come back towards the end of our tour, when we had a better idea of what else we wanted to buy and how much bargaining power we had left.
Han Market is a must-visit if you’re ever in Da Nang. Just be prepared to haggle, embrace the chaos, and have fun!
