I ❤️ Da Nang Vietnam 2025 - Day 2 - Son Tra Marina - 07/26/2025

Day 2 - Da Nang Travel Diary: A Whirlwind of Markets, Marinas, and Missed Opportunities

Our Marble Mountain adventure wrapped up around 4:00 PM, leaving us with a thirst for more of Da Nang's vibrant offerings. Next on the agenda: the famed Son Tra Market. A Grab ride, costing around 60k VND and clocking in at nearly thirty minutes, transported us from the mountain's rocky peaks to the promise of bustling market stalls.
The journey itself was a mini-tour of the Vietnamese countryside. Da Nang unfolded before our eyes, revealing a tapestry of clean streets, charming houses, and a glimpse into the everyday lives of its residents. The weather, a welcome change from the mountain's intensity, was calming. The heat had mellowed into a warm embrace, the kind of afternoon weather that gently nudges you toward a nap.
Upon arriving in Son Tra, we hit a snag. Our driver informed us that the original Son Tra Market was under renovation and had temporarily relocated. Furthermore, it wouldn't open until 6:00 PM. A bit early, we decided to explore the nearby Marina Bay of Son Tra.

And what a sight it was! The marina offered a stunning vantage point of the iconic Dragon Bridge and the playful Lion's Head fountain, spouting water in a mesmerizing display. We seized the opportunity, snapping photos and strolling along the waterfront, soaking in the atmosphere.
Our wanderings led us to a unique find: a street vendor peddling avocado and durian ice cream. Intrigued, we indulged, and the creamy, exotic flavors proved to be a delightful surprise.
With time still to kill, we stumbled upon a convenience store with outdoor seating. We grabbed some refreshments, settled into the small chairs, and simply chilled, watching the marina come to life. An hour drifted by, and the allure of the market began to wane. The weariness from our earlier mountain trek was setting in. The thought of waiting another hour felt less and less appealing.

Ultimately, we made the call to head back to the hotel. The promise of rest and relaxation outweighed the draw of the market. So, we hopped back in a Grab and made our way back, leaving the Son Tra Market for another day.
While we missed the market's evening bustle, the detour to Marina Bay was a serendipitous discovery. The beautiful views, the quirky ice cream, and the simple pleasure of relaxing by the water made for a memorable afternoon. Perhaps next time, we'll conquer the Son Tra Market, but for now, the memories of Marina Bay will suffice.
