I ❤️ Da Nang Vietnam 2025 - Day 3 - Go Market - 07/27/2025
Day 3: Da Nang Travel Diary: Go Market Adventures and Hidden Cake Missions
Today was meant to be a chill day after last night's phone and wallet fiasco. We woke up around 7 AM, had a relaxed breakfast with the convenience store goodies from Fun Mart, and geared up for a trip to Go Market at 9 AM.
Our main goal was to replace the stolen phone, but we quickly learned that Go Market doesn't actually sell phones. Apparently, there's a specific street in Ham Nghi dedicated to that. Instead, we grabbed some snacks and thought about heading to My Khe Beach. The souvenir options at Go Market were so tempting, though, that we got sidetracked planning our shopping spree for gifts to bring back home.
I also had a secret mission: buying a birthday cake for Gracia, whose birthday is on July 28th. I asked the staff to box it anonymously, hoping to keep it a surprise. But, thanks to the language barrier, the cake ended up in a box with the word "cake" plastered all over it! Now I have to hide it in plain sight so Gracia doesn't get suspicious. Wish me luck!
Lunchtime rolled around, and we hit up the mall's food court. It was a bit pricier than the other restaurants we've tried. One interesting thing we noticed is that they weigh the food and charge you based on its weight. The food servers are separate from the cashier and the beverage station. Plus, there are free-to-use microwave ovens and ketchup refills. Pretty convenient!
Around 11 AM, we finally set out to find a new phone. Google Maps said it was an 8-minute walk, but Google's time estimates are always a bit off. It took us closer to 20 minutes to reach Ham Nghi. Along the way, we noticed how organized Da Nang's businesses are, with specific areas for food, electronics, and gadgets. It seemed like every other store was selling iPhones, maybe because of Vietnam's proximity to China. Gracia wanted an Android, though, and we eventually found a store that sold Oppo and Xiaomi phones. We ended up buying the latest Redmi phone for about 15k PHP (converted to VND), and then grabbed a SIM card from another store.
By noon, the sun finally decided to make an appearance, and it was scorching! We decided to ditch the beach plan, head back to the hotel, rest, freshen up, and have some bread and coffee for snacks. My Khe Beach will have to wait for another day!
