I ❤️ Da Nang Vietnam 2025 - Day 6 - Phuong Banh Mi - 07/29/2025

Day 6 - Da Nang Travel Diary: Hoi An Food Trip & The Legend of Phuong Banh Mi

Today was all about conquering Hoi An, and let me tell you, this town is a foodie's paradise! After our little debate about hitting the night market (we decided against it, exhaustion won!), our stomachs started rumbling, and there was only one thing on our minds: Phuong Banh Mi.

Now, for those not in the know, Phuong Banh Mi is practically a Hoi An institution. It even got the stamp of approval from the late, great Anthony Bourdain! For those unfamiliar, Bourdain wasn't just some random food critic; he was a culinary icon, a storyteller, and a champion of authentic food experiences. His passion for exploring different cultures through their cuisine was infectious, and his recommendations were gold. So, when Bourdain raves about a place, you know it's the real deal. Why is Phuong Banh Mi so popular? Well, imagine the perfect symphony of flavors and textures all crammed into a crispy baguette. We're talking layers of savory meats, fresh herbs, tangy pickles, and a secret sauce that's seriously addictive. It's no wonder people line up for blocks just to get their hands on one of these bad boys!

We were staying near the night market, so we decided to walk to Phuong Banh Mi. The 20-minute stroll was actually quite nice, giving us a chance to soak in the atmosphere of Hoi An. We arrived around 7:30 pm, and thankfully, the shop was still open! There was a short line, but as soon as we placed our order, it seemed like the entire city decided to join us. Talk about lucky timing!

We were both completely wiped out from the day's adventures, so we opted for takeout. By 8 pm, banh mi in hand, we were ready to head back to Da Nang. We'd arranged for our driver to pick us up near Phuong Banh Mi, and after a 20-minute wait (traffic!), we were finally on our way at 8:30 pm.
As we drove through Hoi An at night, we couldn't help but think that this place deserves a proper food trip. Seriously, one night is not enough! We're already plotting our return, and next time, we're definitely staying at least one night in Hoi An.

Finally, around 9 pm, we were back at the hotel, ready to crash. It was a long but incredibly satisfying day filled with delicious food and charming sights. Hoi An, you've stolen a piece of our hearts (and our stomachs!).
