Day 3 - Da Nang Travel Diary: Han River by Night
Day 3 in Da Nang was all about conquering the Han River at night, and let me tell you, it was an adventure!
After crashing at the hotel for a bit and grabbing some grub, we rallied the troops for a 5:30 PM mission to find an ATM. We met up, and stomachs started rumbling. Lunch was a no-show earlier, so we hunted down a place to eat. We stumbled upon this fancy restaurant slingin' banh mi, and OMG, it was one of the best I've ever had! Plus, the place was super Instagrammable, and they gave us magnet souvenirs for giving them a 5-star review on Google. Score!
With our bellies happy, we set off to explore the other side of the Dragon Bridge. Yesterday, we strolled along the Han River Walk towards the bridge, but this time, we wanted to see what the opposite side had to offer. The area was buzzing with cool bars and restaurants. First things first, though – ATM time. After what felt like an eternity, we finally spotted one at a corner. Phew!
Next up: the Han River Night Cruise! We booked a Grab, and 15 minutes later, we were there. The driver was a legend and offered to help us navigate the ticket booth and chat with the staff in Vietnamese. Unfortunately, we hadn't booked tickets in advance, so we were trying to wing it. Let me tell you, it was a hassle. The ticket people seemed to prioritize tour groups, and we got the runaround from multiple stalls. They were all saying the 8 PM slot was full for walk-ins. Word to the wise: book ahead!
The 8 PM cruise is the one to snag because it lines up with the Dragon Fire and Water Show. Yesterday, we watched it from the bridge, but tonight, we wanted a river view. Sadly, the language barrier made it tough to score tickets. It felt like they just didn't want to deal with walk-in tourists. There are two cruise options: one with food and one without.
Desperate, we checked Klook and found tickets for 9 PM (or tomorrow night). Since the 8 PM slot was a bust, we decided to go for the 9 PM cruise since we were already there. It was almost 8 PM, and then BAM! A message popped up on my WhatsApp from a Klook rep. Talk about lucky! She spoke English and told us to head to ticket booth 1 because they had an 8 PM slot for us. WHAT?!
I told the crew we were in as "chance passengers" and could cruise at 8 PM. We rushed to meet the Klook lady, who was the same person who had turned us down earlier! But this time, she was super friendly. All was forgiven as long as we got on that boat! She hooked us up with tickets and let us skip the massive line. We felt like VIPs! As soon as we got to the gate, the excitement hit. I immediately thanked the Klook owner for saving the day.
The moral of the story? Always book the Han River Cruise on Klook. Don't even bother with walk-ins!
