Day 5 - Da Nang Travel Diary: Ba Na Hills: Gateway to Wonder!
Rise and shine! 6 am came early, but adventure awaited! After a quick bath and tour prep, I chatted with the hotel receptionist about my luggage delivery and asked them to call my Ba Na Hills driver.
At 7:30 am, the driver arrived, and we were off! The weather was absolutely perfect – gloomy with a touch of sun and a delightfully chilly temperature. I told the driver to pick us up at 7 pm so we could soak in every last bit of Ba Na Hills magic.
By 8:30 am, we arrived at Ba Na Hills! Let's dive into the history and construction of this incredible place. Ba Na Hills was originally established as a French hill station in 1919. The French colonists sought a cool escape from the coastal heat, and Ba Na, with its higher elevation, offered just that. Over the years, it fell into disrepair, but in 2009, Sun Group began a massive project to transform it into the modern-day resort we see today.
The construction was a feat of engineering, with cable cars stretching for miles and transporting visitors up the steep mountainside. The resort is divided into several sections, each with its own unique theme and attractions.
Today, I'm focusing on Gateway, the initial area you encounter when arriving at Ba Na Hills. Gateway is more than just a welcome area; it's a grand introduction to the wonders that await.
Gateway includes:
- The Ticket Counter: While we skipped this part thanks to our pre-booked Klook tickets, the ticket area itself is quite impressive. The architecture is designed to transport you to another world, setting the tone for your Ba Na Hills experience.
- The Parking Area: Okay, maybe not the most exciting part, but it's a necessary one! The parking area is vast and well-organized, accommodating the many visitors who flock to Ba Na Hills each day.
- Hoi An Garden: This is where the magic truly begins! The Hoi An Garden is a stunning recreation of the ancient town of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Vietnam. The colorful buildings, intricate lanterns, and charming details make you feel like you've stepped back in time.
- Hoi An Station: This is where you hop on the first cable car that whisks you away to the mountaintop. The station itself is a beautiful structure, blending French colonial architecture with Vietnamese elements.
We snapped tons of pictures at the Hoi An Garden. The entrance itself was a sight to behold! Since we booked our tickets through Klook, the staff directed us straight to the cable car area for ticket scanning. The ticket cost 700,000 VND (around 1500 pesos), and it included a lunch buffet at the Four Seasons restaurant! Score!
The parkways in Gateway are HUGE! There's plenty of space to wander, explore, and take in the sights. The landscaping is immaculate, with lush greenery and vibrant flowers everywhere you look.
Gateway is the perfect starting point for your Ba Na Hills adventure. It sets the stage for the incredible experiences that await you further up the mountain. Stay tuned for more updates as I explore the rest of Ba Na Hills!
